‘Bengal Bari Scheme’ Financial Aid Starts from Today

The West Bengal government has recently launched the 'Bangla Bari' scheme, They are aiming to provide financial aid for constructing permanent houses for homeless peoples. With the central government halting funds for housing projects, the state government has been decided to utilise with their own resources. This process are being starts from today, with the first instalment set to reach beneficiaries' bank accounts by the end of December 2024.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee officially launched the 'Bangla Bari' scheme as on Tuesday at the conference hall of Nabanna. Around 12 lakh families are eligible and expected to receive the funds. In the first phase, every beneficiary will get 60 thousand rupees. The second and third instalments, of 40 thousand and 20 thousand respectively will follow in due course.
The central government was suddenly stopped funding because of discrepancies in beneficiary lists of the scheme delays in housing projects. After this decision the led to political tensions with Trinamool Congress leaders staging protests in Delhi and Kolkata too. To solve the issue, the West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee has been committed to providing funding directly from their treasury.
Under this scheme, a total amount of 1.2 lakh rupees will be provided to every eligible family. The state government has implemented strict measures to ensure transparency and prevent for duplicate payments. Local Block Development Officers (BDOs) have been instructed to verify the beneficiary details personally before releasing the amount.
The ‘Bangla Bari’ scheme targets to those families who living below the poverty line, particularly those peoples who live-in without homes or residing in temporary mud houses. Financial assistance will enable to them to construct permanent shelters. Beneficiary accounts will be credited the amount in phases over the next few weeks.
